The New Year brings with it many opportunities- however you don’t have to travel too far to take up a new sport, get fitter or learn something new. In this article we’re going to go over a number of opportunities available on your doorstep that could make life more interesting in 2015!
A good place to start is Kessingland Library. There are events and activities throughout the week for young and old people alike. For example every Tuesday from 9.15-11.15 there is an art group, ideal if you have always wanted to get your own artistic license!
For some people they would rather learn how to write rather than draw or paint. If you are looking to write the next Harry Potter or Jack Reacher (or want to write purely for the joy of it!) then you should come along to the creative writing group at the library. It takes place once a month on a Wednesday from 10.30-11.30 (giving you enough time in between to work on your literary masterpieces!
However it’s not just the library where you can learn a new skill- a quick look on the parish council’s website reveals a full range of clubs and societies that you could join in 2015 (the full list is here)
As a quick example you could get in on the action and get your own patch at the local allotment, join an indoor or outdoor bowls club, join the local camponologists at St Edmunds Church (that’s the bell ringers- harder than it looks and excellent exercise) as well as organisations like the Beavers and other after school activities for the kids as well.
Finally if you are a budding musician then you may want to join multicover band Breeze for their Open Mic and Jam sessions at the Sailors Home on Church Road. Musicians are welcome to bring their instruments and singers are welcome to join in. As well as being a great opportunity to join in the nights are often great fun even if you just want to sit back and enjoy the jam session.
In short there is a wide array of things to do in Kessingland over the coming year, giving you the chance to engage in a wide array of activities and the opportunity to take full advantage of all that is on offer on your doorstep. Don’t forget to check our gig calendar to find out more about what’s going on throughout the year so you don’t have to stay in and be bored at any time during 2015!
